Ireland 2023 will build on a strong track record of staging major events, across a wide range of sports, delivered to the very highest standards. We’ve hosted The Special Olympics. The opening stage of the Tour de France. The Giro d’Italia, which attracted 227,000 spectators across the island of Ireland.

A then world-record crowd of 82,208 attended the Heineken Cup semi-final between Munster and Leinster in Croke Park in 2009.

American Football

NCAA American Football Emerald Isle Classic: Notre Dame v Navy, Lansdowne Road (Aviva Stadium), Dublin, 2012

In 2012, 43,509 people attended the American Football game between Notre Dame and Navy at Lansdowne Road (Aviva Stadium), of whom 35,000 were American visitors who travelled here for that weekend.

We have proven experience in 24-hour turnarounds for major events. For example in 2014, Croke Park hosted UCF v Penn State, US College Football (attendance 53,304) and the next day, the All-Ireland Championship Semi-Final, Dublin v Donegal (attendance 81,500).
